Takk for turen!

Since November, a particularly interesting commercial has been played on the norwegian movie theaters and it has caught the attention of many people. Most norwegians express a big feeling of pride and patriotism when they comment the commercial and some say that it expresses the best part of living in Norway. As a foreigner, I think it represents in a nutshell the reason why foreign people fall in love with the country in the first place and I have to confess that it makes my tearducts go wet each time I see this commercial. It reminds us of why the national anthem of Norway is called "Ja, vi elsker dette landet!" ("Yes, we love this land!").

Curiously, it is a commercial for celebrating the 70 years jubileum of a popular chocolate brand (Kvikk Lunsj), that most people take on tours through the nature. The title of the short movie is called "Takk for turen" ("Thanks for the tour") and it ends up with the the sentence: "To all who make it possible, thanks for the tour" (referring to the people of the National Tourist Association who voluntarily prepare tracks in nature for tours, and who are represented in the movie). The music is a song called "Safe Travels" from the band Peter & the Wolves (an american band from Austin, Texas).

Inverno!

Uma coisa que costumo dizer aos visitantes estrangeiros aquando da sua visita à Noruega é a seguinte frase:

-"There is only two kind of reactions to a longterm stay in Norway: either you love the country or you hate it. There's no middle term!"

A razão principal são os Invernos. Longos e rigorosos, mas igualmente mágicos e belos. Os Outonos são escuros, frios e chuvosos, os Verões curtos, as Primaveras esmorecidas, mas o Inverno é verdadeiramente o rei das estacões do ano neste país. Desde que haja neve, correm os miúdos e os grúdos para o exterior nos fins-de-semana para as grandes caminhadas na neve, em esqui de fundo. Famílias inteiras, desde os quase recém-nascidos até aos reformados, dão longas voltas pelas florestas esbranquicadas à volta das cidades. Aos domingos sentam-se famílias inteiras em frente aos televisores para ver o NRK Sport e ver os seus heróis conquistarem tudo o que há para conquistar nos desportos de inverno. Heróis nacionais despontam e amadurecem e tornam-se pequenas grandes celebridades que toda a gente (re)conhece. Ole Einar Bjørndalen (biatlo nórdico), Bjørn Dæhlie (esqui nórdico), Vegard Ulvang (esqui nórdico), Marit Bjørgen (esqui nórdico), Johan Olav Koss (patinagem de velocidade), Kjetil Andre Aamodt (esqui alpino) , Sonja Henge (patinagen artística) e muitos outros atingem uma ressonãncia popular comparável a um Luis Figo, Rui Costa, Eusébio ou qualquer outro jogador de futebol em Portugal.

A letra da música de fundo é uma cancão muito popular do grupo norueguês Jokke og Valentinerne, e o refrão diz:

"Her kommer vinteren,

("Aqui vem o Inverno,
aqui vem os frios bons tempos,
aqui vem o Inverno,
finalmente temos paz".)
